Itzel Camarillo, Clinical Intern
Itzel Camarillo (she/they/ella) is a bilingual mental health counselor dedicated to making therapy accessible, collaborative, and rooted in cultural humility. As a queer, first-generation Mexican American, Itzel carries a deep awareness of how systemic inequities, cultural identity, and lived experiences shape mental health. She is committed to creating a space where clients—particularly Latines and other marginalized communities—can show up fully as themselves and feel both challenged and supported in their growth.
Itzel approaches therapy as a partnership built on curiosity, respect, and authenticity. She believes in the power of insight as a foundation for long-term change and works to help clients uncover the “why” behind their feelings and patterns. Her counseling style blends evidence-based practices with a warm, human presence, centering each client’s inner world while also holding the larger social and cultural contexts that impact their lives.
She is especially passionate about working with people navigating identity exploration, life transitions, and the ongoing tension between personal healing and systemic barriers through a trauma-informed lens. Above all, Itzel sees therapy as a space for clients to be deeply heard, to find new ways of understanding themselves, and to build lives that feel authentic, empowered, and whole.
Itzel earned her B.A. in Psychology and Linguistics from Barnard College, Columbia University and is completing her M.A./M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling in the Bilingual Latina/o Concentration at Teachers College, Columbia University. In her free time, she enjoys mixed-media crafting and playing with her cat, Professor Biscuit.
