Due to the regulations set by the CDC, we have been socially distant from one another for almost 6 months when we needed social support the most. Suddenly, we were afraid of the people we love most or did not want to put our loved ones in harm’s way.

A theme that came up in our therapy sessions and in our personal lives was whether people who lived with others or those who lived alone were better off. No one seemed to particularly be a fan of their own circumstance! Feelings of isolation are not just for those who have been physically alone.

About the “How to Cope” Workshop

COVID-19, along with the racially charged violence and the current political climate, has brought about a wave of new challenges for most communities. It’s hard to find someone that is not deeply affected by this year’s events. Individuals have been grieving global changes and personal losses. In fact, as therapists, we believe we are all experiencing collective trauma at this time.

Therapy Brooklyn’s virtual “How to Cope” workshop series is a support group that aims to help you in understanding the anxiety, depression, and grief caused by the chaos of 2020. Have you noticed that it seems more difficult to focus, plan, or remember things you might not have had a problem with before this year’s events? How about social anxiety before seeing your friends for the first time in months? Are you growing apathetic as the year becomes increasingly distressing? You might be surprised to know that you’re not alone. In this workshop, you’ll find a community in covering issues such as isolation, depression, grief, working from home, unemployment, the current political climate, and social justice movements & activism.

Every three weeks, Anjali and Liz will guide conversation in groups of up to 10 individuals through discussion based questions, journaling, and evidence-based coping strategies.

We look forward to building a community with you starting September 24, 2020 @ 7pm.
