Shirley Chen Garcia offers individual therapy for children (ages 8 - 12), adolescents, and adults, as well as couples and family therapy. She specializes in anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, relational issues, systemic oppression, and childhood trauma. Her approach is person-centered, empathetic, and compassionate as she encourages engagement and curiosity in her clients.

Shirley views therapy as a safe space for self-exploration, learning processes, and a journey to healing. She is a person who encourages curiosity in one's values and beliefs as they enhance one's purpose. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including strength-based, solution-focused, mindfulness and trauma-informed counseling, and evidence-based treatments such as person-centered therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to further cultivate a warm and accepting environment. Therapy with children can include talking, playing, or other activities to help the child gain vocabulary to express their emotions and thoughts. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including mindfulness and play therapy, and evidence-based treatment such as behavioral therapy.


Shirley is a psychotherapist (MHC-LP), with a Master of Science in Education degree specializing in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Hunter College. Her Chinese American background and interracial marriage empower her passion to work with individuals, couples, and families to honor and respect their multicultural world views while strengthening one’s mental wellness.
