Josie Rhee, LP-MHC
Josie believes you are the expert of your life. She will work in collaboration with you to address identity, trauma, relationships with others and self, and self-expression.
Josie’s work is influenced by psychodynamic, strength-based, and cognitive-behavioral approaches. She cares to understand your family history, relationships with others and self, and cultural contexts that make up your identity. Simultaneously, she cares to help you identify ways to approach stagnant areas in your life and support you in ways to practice wanted behaviors in the here and now. She is dedicated to staying curious and exploring your expansive self.
As a Korean-American child of immigrants, Josie is passionate about exploring patterns of shame, guilt, intergenerational trauma, and anxiety. As a woman therapist of color, she is also aware of the dynamics of power, oppression, and marginalization. For example, she is eager to address experiences of racial or gender discrimination and how those experiences may have shaped how you interact with the world and even with her as your therapist.
Before pivoting into counseling, Josie spent several years in corporate fashion, which informs her work when working with adults under fast-paced and high-stress environments. Josie’s corporate experience also informs her passion in creating a space where you can comfortably show up as your whole self.
Josie graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech. She completed her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University.
