“The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.”- Chimanda Ngozi Adichie

In this Ted Talk Nigerian author Chimanda Ngozi Adichie talks about the danger of a single story; a message that is relevant to the therapy experience I attempt to create with clients. Often people come in with a narrow view of themselves informed by a negative self image. Therapy is about expanding this story to include one’s strengths, to invite compassion and kindness and in doing increase confidence and movement towards goals.
